Multiple media sources have been reporting on a survey by the National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) which found that, among 18 – 35 year olds, “20% had cut or significantly reduced dairy in their diet”. Headlines on this across various media outlets such as the BBC, Independent, and “Dairy-free diets warning over risk to bone health” and “ 'Clean eating' trend will cause broken bones, experts warn”. The implication of these news reports is that a reduction in dairy consumption is going to directly lead to worsening bone health among today’s youth. As far as can be seen by what data and/or information is actually available from the NOS, none of the conclusions implied by media sources are in any way related to actual survey results.
